You might even find yourself Googling things like “what to eat during pregnancy” or “best pregnancy diet.”


The truth is, there is a lot of information out there, and it can feel like too much. At Pregnancy Care Center of Grants Pass, we understand that. You don’t need to have a perfect diet. You just need a balanced one that supports both you and your baby.

This is a simple starting point to help you feel more confident in your daily choices. While general nutrition guidelines are helpful, your body and your pregnancy are unique. What works well for one woman may not be exactly what your body needs, which is why having medical support early on can make a big difference.


Focus on Nutrient Dense Foods


When it comes to a healthy pregnancy diet, the goal is to focus on foods that give your body the most nutrients. Think fruits and vegetables, protein, fiber, water, complex carbs, and healthy fats. These are the building blocks that help support your baby’s development while also helping you feel your best. Early pregnancy is also a time when your body is going through rapid changes, and having a clear picture of your health can help guide these choices.

Some great options include chicken, beef, pork, and eggs, along with plant based choices like beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, and quinoa. Fiber is something many women don’t think about until they need it. During pregnancy, digestion can slow down, which can lead to constipation. Getting enough fiber from whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, and lentils can help keep things moving and make you feel more comfortable.


How Much Water You Need During Pregnancy

Water is one of the simplest but most important parts of staying healthy during pregnancy. Your body needs more of it as your blood volume increases, and your baby relies on it too. Staying hydrated can also help reduce the risk of urinary tract infections and support digestion.


A general guideline is around 80 ounces a day, but that can vary depending on your body and activity level. If you’re dealing with symptoms like nausea, fatigue, or trouble keeping fluids down, it can be helpful to talk with a medical provider about what your body needs during this stage.


Healthy Carbs for Energy

Carbohydrates often get a bad reputation, but they are actually your body’s main source of energy. The key is choosing complex carbs that digest more slowly and keep you fuller longer. Foods like oats, rice, potatoes, whole grain bread, and pasta are all good options to include.

Fats are another area where quality matters. Instead of fried or heavily processed foods, focus on healthy fats like olive oil, avocado, nuts, and seeds. These support your baby’s brain development and help your body absorb important nutrients.
