Caring for Your Physical Health After an Abortion
Your body needs time to recover. Here are a few important ways to support your healing:
• Stay hydrated and replenish electrolytes, especially if you've experienced bleeding, nausea, or vomiting.
• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions and complete any prescribed medications as directed.
• Prioritize rest, nutritious foods, and gentle movement while your body recovers.
• Avoid tampons, intercourse, or inserting anything vaginally until cleared by your healthcare provider.
• Seek immediate medical care if you experience heavy bleeding, severe pain, fever, dizziness, unusual discharge, rapid heartbeat, or any symptoms that concern you.
If you're unsure whether what you're experiencing is normal, we're happy to help connect you with appropriate medical care and community resources.
Caring for Your Emotional Well-Being
Physical recovery is only one part of the healing process.
Give Yourself Permission to Process
Abortion can bring up a wide range of emotions immediately, months later, or even years after the experience. Talking with a trusted support person, counselor, or advocate can help you navigate those feelings and begin the healing process.
Signs You May Need Additional Support
Some women experience:
• Anxiety or panic
• Grief or sadness
• Difficulty sleeping
• Increased stress or emotional overwhelm
• Guilt, regret, or unresolved feelings
• Emotional triggers around anniversaries, due dates, or pregnancy-related experiences
There is no "right" way to feel. Your experience matters, and support is available.
In addition to one-on-one support, Pregnancy Care Center offers post-abortion healing classes and retreats designed to provide a safe space for reflection, healing, and hope.
Post-Abortion Healing Classes
Healing often happens best when you don't have to walk through it alone.
Our post-abortion healing classes provide a safe, confidential environment where women can process their experiences, explore difficult emotions, and find hope for the future. Whether your abortion was recent or many years ago, these classes are designed to help you move forward with support and encouragement.
Participants have the opportunity to:
• Process grief, loss, or unresolved emotions
• Explore feelings of guilt, regret, anger, sadness, or confusion
• Learn healthy coping strategies
• Connect with others who understand similar experiences
• Discover hope, healing, and renewed confidence
Participation is completely confidential, and there is never any cost to attend.
