I'm Pregnant But I Don't Want to Be

by Pregnancy Care Center on July 8, 2019
If you think you could be pregnant but you don’t want to be, what do you do? This is never an easy question to answer. When you find yourself in this situation, you need to talk closely with your partner and loved ones, and also consider the positive and negative consequences of each choice you can make. The Pregnancy Care Center of Grants Pass is here to help you navigate your pregnancy, explain your pregnancy options, and answer your questions in a supportive and judgment free space. Call us today at (541) 479-6264 or visit us online to schedule your free appointment.

When You Think You’re Pregnant

If you haven’t taken a pregnancy test, that should be your first step. If cost is a barrier, you can get free pregnancy testing done at our center. Our professional grade pregnancy tests are more than 99% accurate when taken correctly. We can also help you get access to resources and find answers sooner rather than later.

Once you have taken a pregnancy test, you should also get an ultrasound to ensure your pregnancy is safe. This is an important step even when you don’t want to be pregnant. Pregnancy ultrasounds are the best way of determining whether your pregnancy is normal or whether it could be a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy. We offer free limited OB ultrasounds at our center. Call us today at (541) 479-6264 to learn more.

What to Do Next

After you’ve found out you’re really pregnant, you have several options to consider. Each has their upsides and downsides, so you’ll want to think carefully about them all.

Abortion

This might be the first thought in your mind, but it’s not as easy as some make it out to be. Abortion procedures can be expensive and painful, and many women are left with lasting grief after choosing this option. While we do not provide or refer for abortion services, we are committed to answering your questions. We can provide you with confirmation of how far along your pregnancy is so you can know which procedure you would most likely experience.

Placing your baby for adoption

While this does mean carrying the pregnancy to term, most women receive generous financial help from the adoptive family, including medical and living expenses. You can also arrange for the adoption to be as open or closed as you wish, so you can choose the level of contact you’re comfortable with. If you aren’t able to parent, no matter what the reason, adoption may be the best option for you. If you want more information on this pregnancy option, come to Pregnancy Care Center of Grants Pass, where we’ll help you research this option, answer any questions you may have, and provide referrals if needed.

Keeping the baby and parenting

While this might sound unthinkable now, you may be surprised to find out how you handle a child. Many women have children young and go on to have full, successful, and happy lives. We offer Pathways, a free pregnancy and early parenting support and education program where you not only receive the tools and knowledge you need, but also have a safe place to come and meet with a community of people who have chosen this pregnancy option.

Along with considering your pregnancy options, you should also start an open dialog with the people you trust, such as your partner, your family, your close friends or your doctor. This will help you get answers to your questions, different perspectives on the challenges you are facing, and support for your choices and decisions. Discuss how you feel about all your pregnancy options and which one you think might be right for you. If you feel like you don’t have anyone to do this with, visit Pregnancy Care Center of Grants Pass at any time. Our staff is here to take the time to process all of your options with you.

And remember, don’t feel guilty about your feelings. It’s natural to be scared or hesitant about pregnancy, especially when you weren’t expecting it to happen. But when you talk about it with your family and friends and consider your options, you’ll find a path forward. It’s only by acknowledging your feelings that you’ll work through them and arrive at the right choice.
